Residential & Commercial Roofing Services

Do you have a flat roof that frequently leaks despite several repairs? If yes, you should try our residential tar and gravel roofing services. We designed these services to help residential property owners like you. The main problem with flat roofs is that they hold a lot of water, increasing the chances of a water leak.
What is Tar Roofing?
Roofing tar is a dark and oily substance used to repair roof leaks. It is made of coal tar and a combination of petroleum byproducts. The good thing about tar is that it can be used on both commercial and residential properties.
How Do We Apply Roofing Tar?
When we apply roofing tar, we prefer to use it when the temperatures are between 40 and 70 degrees. If the tar is applied in temperatures above 70 degrees, it might melt and not correctly seal. When considering which tar to use, we calculate the square area of your roof. If it has steep slants with eaves, then we use coal tar bitumen.
After identifying the type of tar to use, we will then nail a base layer to the ceiling. This is because it is a good absorbent of heat, and if you live in a hot region, you risk damaging the roof. Three types of coating can be used:
  • Asphalt
  • Aluminized
  • Elastomeric
The type of coating to use will depend on your roof's shape and the weather conditions.

When applying the tar, we prefer to use a fiberglass mop to spread the tar from one corner to another. We ensure there are no clumps as this can create unsightly scenes on the roof.
Pros
  • Tar is suitable for use in rainy and snowy regions
  • Protects the roof from ultraviolet rays
  • Its energy-efficient
Cons
  • It can interfere with the structural integrity of the  house
  • Tar is prone to ponding
  • Safety gear needed

TORCH ROOFING
Torch roofing is suitable for commercial properties such as malls and warehouses with low-pitch roofs. Torch roofing is a process in which two modified bitumen layers are melted together and then applied to the roof using a torch. The resultant coating is waterproof and UV resistant. This method is suitable for use on properties in rainy regions.
There are two torch roofing systems available. These are:
Two-layer torch system
The two-layer torch system uses a granular surface and a smooth base ply
Three-layer torch system
This system uses a granular surface, a base ply coat, and an asphaltic board
Advantages of Torch Roofing System
  • It is affordable
  • It is fire resistant
  • Can not rot
  • Easy to repair
  • UV resistant
  • Can last for more than 20 years

Note:  If your property's roof is not structurally strong, the Torch method is suitable. This is because it does not use gravel ballast hence light in nature.
INSTALLATION OF TORCH STYLE ROOFING
When installing a Torch, we might or might not remove the already existing roof. The decision to remove an already installed roof will depend on the level of damage done. If the damage is severe, then we will remove the already existing roof.

When using a Torch, we advise that only knowledgeable roofing contractors handle it. If it is poorly installed, it will cause more to repair. Also, you might be in legal trouble if the quack contractor accidentally burns himself during the installation process.

The first process of using a Torch is to cover the roof with a fiberglass base layer. Once the fiberglass base layer is in place, we roll over bitumen on the fiberglass while torching it. Once torched, the bitumen melts and adheres to the fiberglass. We continue to roll it over until we have covered the entire roof.

When we want to cover metal flashings, areas around the chimney, and roof vents, we apply a primer to the surface so that the bitumen attaches.
Pros
  • The roof has a life span of 20 - 30 years
  • Waterproof
  • Weather Resistant
Cons
  • Requires specialized installers
  • Hazardous to install

GRAVEL ON FLAT ROOFS
Do you ever wonder why there is gravel on commercial roofs? Trust us when we tell you that this was not by mistake. Stone is used on flat roofs for two main reasons:
  • To hold down roofing materials such as single-ply
  • To protect the roofing materials from elements such as snow and UV light

If you want a gravel roof installed, make sure it is done by a professional. This is because the weight of the gravels must be precise. When installing the gravels, we maintain a weight of 10 -25 pounds per square foot. Gravel roofs have several advantages:
  • Economical to install
  • Low maintenance costs because the asphalt is protected from element s
  • It protects waterproofing membranes from mechanical and environmental damage
  • Gravel is non-combustible, and this increases the property's fire rating
Gravel Roof Inspections
We recommend that a gravel roof be inspected at least once a year. If you are in an area that has just experienced extreme weather, give us a call immediately at 778-401-0730. When we came for the inspection, we will do the following:
  • Check for any exposed surfaces (Where gravel could have been removed)
  • Inspect pipes and vents for cracks and reseal as deemed fit
  • Clean debris, dirt, and leaves from waterways and valleys

Only after inspecting your roof will we be able to know the extent of damage done. If the damage is severe, then a complete tear-off and replacement must be done. If this is the case, we will propose a cost-effective solution using a Fluid Applied Reinforced Roofing system.
